The Brooklyn Dodgers Jersey may be best remembered for being the jersey Jackie Robinson wore when he broke the color line.  Jackie Robinson, when he played his first major-league game on April 15, 1947, as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. This event was the harbinger of the integration of sports in the United States.  Jackie Robinson went on to become the first rookie of the year, all while wearing a Brooklyn Dodgers Jersey. 

Dodgers were rebuilt into a contending club first by general manager Larry MacPhail and then the legendary Branch Rickey. Legendary greats wearing the Brookly Dodgers jersey include Pee Wee Reese, Jackie Robinson and Gil Hodges in the infield, Duke Snider in center field, Roy Campanella behind the plate, and Don Newcombe on the pitcher's mound, the Dodgers won pennants in 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, and 1953. In all five of those World Series, however, they were defeated by the New York Yankees. The annual ritual of building excitement, followed in the end by disappointment, became old hat to the long suffering fans, and “Wait ’til next year!” became an unofficial Brooklyn Dodger slogan.  Fans were die hard though they would wear their Brooklyn Dodgers jerseys with pride despite the losses to the team from the Bronx.
